Aw, Firestream why? I quit a month or two ago anyway.
lol I quit a week after I started. Shoulda stopped with HS1 imho
My account is ranked #43 atm and they sell 1.5 mill credits for $100.00. I wonder what my account would sell for?
A quick guestimate would be about $1,000.00
Everyone of his site has had a donation page so I don't see a big change/surprise. I would assume one of these days this site will have a donation section too to support tournament prizes and site maintenance, though I doubt it will relate to anything other than page bling, lol.
It is 25 million for $100 now, not sure if that changed it. Still not worth the $$, imo. Would have to drop about $3000 to go from 100->#1. Eh, I think most sites will always have some donation incentive, especially flash games. So this tactic does not surprise me, pretty standard practice for that type of site.
I understand a donation system, but basically selling a rank is another thing imo.
He's not selling a rank, 25 million credits will get you nowhere in the game. And I don't know anyone who would spend $100 on it. If someone does, more power to them; they're helping support a site that I enjoy visiting.

I understand your point that 25 mill does not buy much in that game at a high level, it does give accounts a value now and that could be a problem. It also does imply to some users that WILL try this, that they can buy that next rank etc...
People in the CB were already talking about that right after it started. I like the site/game too and feel that this cheapens the game overall. I understand that it takes money to run a site and would rather see the integrity of the game stay intact. Advertisement and the usual donation system is great ways to bring needed cash into the system, and I have no problem with the donations to fill stamina and energy, makes sense, but to buy credits that directly affect the rank-ability seems like cheating to me.
I can't think of any ways to argue this, but who cares? It's all the same. People complained in BF3 when players could purchase all the unlocks for the game from the marketplace. People are complaining that Halo 4 is selling day 1 unlocks. Who cares? It doesn't make the game anymore non-competitive and it doesn't give anyone an advantage over the other.
In Halosphere2, if someone pays the amount of money it is needed in order to actually make a change by buying credits, then I think they deserve to get something out of almost single-handily supporting the game's development.

I get the point your making ssbr and i'm sure others will have a similar view, But like Keg said so many other sites do it, including facebook games. Sites need donations to grow, I think some players will purchase credits for £100, partly to succeed at the game and partly to support the game they enjoy. It will recieve a mixed reaction, but its not complusory to purchase credits. Plenty of players wont, but can still enjoy playing and chat with the sphere community. I would think Firestream, Psy & Fett considered it carefully before trialing it. You do make a good point about credits, but i guess options for donations are limited, FS said its a trial so i'm sure if it becomes viewed as too unfair he'll review it.
I am not trying to argue and sorry if it came across that way. I guess I am just venting frustration. Sorry if I ruffled anyone's feathers, definitely not my intentions.
I have to agree with Keg and Knani on this one, basically it is Firestream's game and as it grows it will need more funding more funding means more updates and so forth, and by adding the ability to purchase cR it allows for the new updates.
I understand, just think there is a better way to raise money.
My issue with it is that as much as people want to say that "even 25,000,000 cR doesn't really get you ahead," there is no way to truly convey that to a new or prospective player. The first thing I did when I heard about HaloSphere was to check and see if any players could "get ahead" in the game by paying real cash. I had passed by several others that offered stamina/game currency in exchange for money. Had HS permitted players back then to gain anything in-game if they gave money, I would never have started. And no matter how many people tried to tell me that 25,000,000 cR isn't a big deal, I simply wouldn't believe them.
I really worry that it will deter future players to see that you can buy credits. Because I know it would have deterred me.
Yeah, I never would have personally considered paying anything, but on the other hand, I instantly thought of the value of my own account. People will start selling accounts now, I am sure of it. But to each his own, I have no plans on leveling up anymore. There is no end in sight.
I think everyone in this thread made valid points but I feel we are just going around in circles now within the discussion so I am gonna close it.
