At this point you have probably triple checked your browser bar to make sure the address actually says halocommunity.com. You are probably thinking to yourself, “It didn’t look like this when I went to sleep last night!”, and you are absolutely right!
I would call this a new “Theme” but that is like painting a wall. What Keg and Fid have done is blown up the wall with high explosive, rebuilt it out of titanium…..and then painted it.
The first stop on our tour of your new diggs, is the top navigation bar. We have placed all the areas here on Halo Community that you like to visit in one central location. This will also help the new members find things much easier, and will streamline the HaloCommunity.com experience. You will also notice up there, the use of our new logo, as well as a background image. Those of you that have already refreshed this page several times wondering if you were on the right site, have probably noticed that the background image cycles through several really awesome Halo 4 themed images.
Also at the top of the page (in the top left) is the Halo Community news feed that you know and love. This feed will keep you up to date and well informed on topics such as site events, live streams, recent posts, etc. In the top right corner is the “Looking For Game” (LFG) functionality which tells you whos playing, and who wants to play. There is also a “Play Now” button. If you hit that, you are automatically added to the list, and it is announced in the chatbox that you need teammates with your username and your gamertag! Take a bow Fid, that is an awesome feature!
Now, about that titanium wall….
The biggest changes to the site you wont ever see, but you will feel. The site software has been upgraded to the newest, sexiest versions and should be much faster than it was before (If you are reading this on September 14th the upgrades were successful, whew…yes, I was holding my breath). In fact the new mobile version of the site has been completely updated and looks awesome! We are still working on a mobile version of the chatbox, and hope to have that out to you soon (and by we, I mean Keg).
Speaking of Keg, if you see him in the chatbox tomorrow (don’t expect to see him before noon as he will be up all night installing all of these amazing updates) tell him he is awesome! Speaking of awesome there was a TON of testing these new features and functionalities to get to this point, and I would personally like to thank not only Keg and Fid, but also the entire staff as well as some select members of the community for their diligence and input to make sure that we deliver you the best experience possible. These updates should carry us through the heavily anticipated release of Halo 4 on November 6th, and shortly after on November 24th, the one year anniversary of of our site.
We really hope you enjoy your updated site, and we really hope that you feel at home here. We will continue to find new and creative ways for us to enjoy the Halo Universe together.
